PROJECTS UNDERWAY

Downtown New Ulm

Our flagship project focuses on increasing the vibrancy of downtown New Ulm, MN. There are many phases to our project and many opportunities to participate–in ways both large and small. Multigenerational housing is a foundational component to our vision, along with the creation of gathering spaces including development of a Bookstore & Youth-Focused Community Center.

PROJECT LIST

LYKKE BOOKS & YOUTH CENTER

Lykke Communities is underway to bring an independent bookstore focused on creating a community focal point and gathering space that highlights local authors, poets, and artists.  The goal is to bring people together in organic ways that boost the quality of relationships between individuals, and provide a sense of belonging.  Program offerings are intended for enjoyment by the community as a whole, with a special focus on youth (grades 5-10).

A Downtown Community Hub & Youth Center

The bookstore will focus on all things local including the following offerings:

  • A variety of new and used books specifically curated to highlight local New Ulm (and immediate surrounding area) and regional authors and poets;

  • A rotating gallery of local artists with products available for purchase;

  • Locally and regionally produced artisan gift products catering to the Germanic and Scandinavian roots of the area;

  • A grab-and-go cafe with locally baked grab-and-go items from local bakers and producers;

  • A multi-purpose gym space available for movement-based class offerings, live music programs, classes, and group rentals;

  • A variety of animals, including fish and a store dog;

  • Spaces for youth to practice creativity through art, music, and other activities.

We have secured a physical space in downtown New Ulm, with plans to open in spring 2024. Stay tuned!
